My dear European and Overseas friends,
I am so proud tonight. Yes, I am proud to be Greek tonight. After five years of increasing destitution and one week of unspeakable terrorism from outside and inside, with the Banks purposely closed, with most European politicians threatening my people in all tones and languages, with the majority of Greek and European media against this government, people, the exhausted people of Greece, decided that:
NO - Fear does not reside on this land anymore.
NO - Money is not the God we believe in.
Also, people, the exhausted people of Greece, decided that:
YES - Europe should rediscover and honour its founding values.
YES - it is OK to be poor, and get poorer, if this is what it takes to be free.
Thank you all for your support these days. On the streets, with signatures, with discussions... Tonight, I have a beautiful smile on my face and a hope in my chest. A hope for a different Europe, but also a different World, where the value of human life will exceed the values of the stock indexes.
I keep saying to my People and I say to you too:
All we have is our BRAIN and SOUL.
All we need is our BRAIN and SOUL.
Watch out!! Do not let anybody take away your BRAIN and SOUL.
